The flow chart below showcases the social listening methodology that I’ve developed with the Global Health Policy & Data Institute and Cognitive Media Lab for conducting infodemiology research on X (formerly Twitter).

Our hybrid approach combines machine learning with qualitative content coding making it possible to examine narratives and themes across thousands (or even millions) of posts while still capturing nuance that can only be detected by humans.

This approach can also be adapted for a range of online environments such as Reddit, Instagram, and other forums that have users interacting with written text. See the full peer-reviewed paper here.
