ABOUT
Hi, my name is Michael. I'm a Social Network Scientist and co-founder of the Cognitive Media Lab at UC San Diego.
My research uses data science techniques, surveys, experimental design, social media analysis, and AI approaches (e.g., large language models, machine learning) to investigate human behavior in virtual spaces. Topics of interest include online communication dynamics, political mobilization, and misinformation spread on social media.

MY
RESEARCH
Social interactions have dramatically shifted since the emergence of the internet. For better and for worse, online communication has transformed our social networks, even when offline.
As a social network scientist, I'm interested in how communication technology impacts collective behavior such as political protesting and private actions like how we find information about the world. Feel free to explore my site for my previous work, which can be broken out into the following areas: Infodemiology & Social Contagion, Online Behaviors, AI Prompt Engineering.
